What is Ethereum?
A year after Ethereum launched, a debate broke out after a smart contract hack occurred. While the majority of Ethereum’s community voted to reverse the hack, others were opposed. And as a result of the two divided sides, the original blockchain was split in two. Ethereum is the new and improved blockchain that you hear about today, while Ethereum Classic represents the original deployment of the network. Ether coin Dubbed “Casper,” Ethereum’s new proof-of-stake (PoS) system involves users of the network locking up their coins to become network contributors, as opposed to using expensive, energy-intensive mining equipment. Each staker is required to lock up 32 ethers or to join a staking pool and combine their ether with others to participate in creating new blocks on the Ethereum PoS blockchain. The Ethereum 2.0 upgrade is rolling out in multiple phases. The initial ones include:

Ethereum’s journey began with a vision to create a unified platform for decentralized applications and smart contracts. Co-created by Vitalik Buterin and launched in 2015 after raising $18,439,086 in Ether through a token presale, Ethereum has since undergone significant upgrades and developmental milestones, including the transition to Ethereum 2.0. Bitcoin.com in your inbox There's a wide range of cryptocurrency wallets that you can securely store your ETH in. These include software wallets like the Crypto.com DeFi Wallet and hardware wallets that resemble USB flash drives.

Looking ahead, expectations are soaring ahead of the highly anticipated Dencun upgrade scheduled for March 13. This upgrade will introduce proto-danksharding, aiming to make layer-2 transactions as affordable as possible for users. 2. Ethereum Price While the original Ethereum blockchain was supposed to die out (known as Ethereum Classic), some users disagreed with the hard fork and stuck around – they argued that one of the key rationales for blockchains is that transactions are “immutable” and aren’t supposed to be able to be reversed. That’s how Ethereum Classic was born.

Spot ETFs directly track the price of the underlying asset, in this case, Ethereum. Investors can buy and sell shares of the ETF on a stock exchange, gaining exposure to Ethereum’s price movement without needing to directly purchase and hold the cryptocurrency itself. How Does ETH Work? Ethereum enacted a big upgrade known as a “hard fork” in order to reverse a massive hack that took place on a decentralized Ethereum-based platform called “The DAO.” A hard fork is a non-backward compatible change that requires all users to upgrade to the latest version. With the intervention by Ethereum’s team, the platform was able to return all of the stolen funds to their owners.
